First Choice Rehab PTs Participate in National Study

First Choice Rehab is proud to have been selected as the only participant in Central Pennsylvania for a nationwide Shoulder Study sponsored by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and the Brooks Center for Rehabilitation Studies based out of the University of Florida.

During the month of June, the First Choice therapists attended a training program so that they could participate effectively in the study. The purpose of the study is to determine which of the evidence-based treatment combinations will give the best outcomes for shoulder impingement. During the next 6 8 months, patients with shoulder pain who qualify will be treated by our physical therapists who will follow specific protocols identified in the study. Data will then be gathered and sent to the study coordinators.

In order to qualify for the study, a patient will be between the ages of 14-80, have pain when lifting their arm, have reduced ability to do daily activities and be a non-surgical candidate. If a patient is appropriate, they will be entered into the study and will receive treatment by a physical therapist with advanced training in evaluation and treatment of shoulder pain. Patients will be paid $75 to complete questionnaires during and after physical therapy and they will receive 4 free resistance exercise bands. Patients' insurance will be billed for the therapy sessions and patients will be responsible for any applicable deductibles, co-insurance and/or co-pays.

If you, or someone you know might qualify for the study, contact any of our offices and ask for information. You can ask your doctor to prescribe physical therapy for you and then become part of this important clinical study.
